Theresa May stood outside the St Stephens entrance to the Palace of Westminster on the afternoon of Monday 11th July 2016 and said:

“Brexit means Brexit and we will make a success of it.”

 

Let’s hope she does mean it. A lot of people will be watching closely.

David Cameron spoke outside number 10 Downing Street and said he would attend his last Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 12th July 2016 and his last PMQs on Wednesday 13th July 2016. He would then attend Buckingham Palace to see the Queen and formally resign. Theresa May would then become Prime Minister on Wednesday evening.

Andrea Leadsom pulls out of the Conservative leadership contest.

Andrea Leadsom has pulled out of the Conservative leadership challenge saying that she felt the party needed to resolve the contest as soon as possible and to get a new PM now rather than waiting 9 weeks.

This leaves the remaining candidate Theresa May as the probable new Prime Minister of the UK.

It also leaves Brexit in the balance as May is a remain supporter and is unlikely to start the exit from the EU this year. If at all.
